Traditional Lacquer Art Exhibition Opens in Hanoi

HANOI (VNA) — An exhibition celebrating the rich heritage of Vietnamese lacquer art has opened in Hanoi, bringing together 100 artists from different generations and showcasing 100 outstanding lacquer paintings.

Titled Vietnamese Lacquer Art, the exhibition features works by renowned artists such as Nguyen Huyen, Nguyen Tien Chung, Van Binh, Pham Van Don, Tran Van Ha, Tran Duy, Ngo Minh Cau, and Nguyen Duc Toan. The event also presents works by Saeko Ando, a Japanese artist who has been living and working in Vietnam, highlighting the cross-cultural appeal of VietnameseTraditional Lacquer Art Exhibition Opens in Hanoi lacquer art.

The exhibition has been officially recognised by the Vietnam Book of Records (VietKings) as “the exhibition of traditional lacquer art with the largest number of participating artists.”

Nguyen Xuan Cuong, President of Chon’s Auction House, said it was an honour to curate and introduce the collection. “These artworks reflect the remarkable creativity, dedication, and refined techniques of Vietnamese lacquer artists,” he noted.

Beyond its artistic value, the exhibition aims to educate the public about traditional lacquer art, emphasizing its significance in Vietnam’s cultural heritage and its enduring role in contemporary artistic expression.

Lacquer painting, considered a distinctive and invaluable legacy of Vietnamese fine arts, is represented through a wide range of themes at the exhibition, including festivals, flowers, women, landscapes, portraits, and abstract compositions.

Through this exhibition, visitors are offered a comprehensive view of the depth, diversity, and sophistication of Vietnamese lacquer art across generations.
